In Inari, the celebration of the Sámi National Day will focus on culture. The program begins with a meal provided by the association SámiSoster at Inari Parish Hall, starting at 11 a.m. After this, there will be a Bishop's Mass in Inari Church at 1 p.m.

After the mass, there will be coffee and exhibition openings at the Sámi Museum Siida. The exhibitions will be opened by the bishop Samuel Salmi from Oulu Diocese and Tarmo Jomppanen, the director of the museum. The three exhibitions are all art exhibitions: a photograph exhibition called Dark by Marja Helander, an internationally well-known Sámi photographic artist, an installation called The Total Number of Native Speakers: 30 by Elina Juopperi on the Inari Sámi, and the art exhibition The 13th Sense by Irene Hagelin. The openings – which will also be attended by the artists – will start at 3 p.m. Siida is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and, on the Sámi National Day, all the exhibitions and the openings will be free.

The program has been arranged by the association SámiSoster , the Sámi Museum Siida, the Cultural Committee of the Sámi Parliament and Inari Parish.

Welcome!
