DIPDay: Dyeing in Public
On DIP Day, colours that can be obtained from wild plants give us pleasure. Värjärikilta ry, a dyers’ association in Finland, honours its 10-year existence by celebrating the international day for dyeing, the DIP Day, on September 2, the name day of Sini. The acronym, DIP, comes from the words "Dyeing in Public".

In Inari, the day will be celebrated in Siida's Sámi lodge, Gámme, and its vicinity. Pots will be humming with yarn that is being dyed, and the celebration is a good opportunity to learn about vegetable dyeing and the wild plants and mushrooms that can be used for this purpose. Nature in Lapland is indeed full of plants that are suitable for dyeing! The event is arranged by Metsähallitus’ Northern Lapland Nature Centre Siida and Oda Koivisto, a local member of the association Värjärikilta. Dyeing will start at 10 a.m., and the fires will be put out at 7 p.m. Drop by at the celebration!
