Ijahis Idja -indigenous peoples music seminar

What is the significance of the Sámi having a music festival of their own? What did Sámi music look like fifteen years ago? What about now? What would we have if there was no Ijahis Idja Festival? These questions, and many other, will be reflected on at the Music Seminar of Ijahis Idja (“Nightless night” in English) in the Sámi Museum Siida In Inari, Finland in August. The seminar will take the form of a panel discussion led by Aslak Paltto. The panel will consist of Annukka Hirvasvuopio-Laiti and a group of other main figures of the Ijahis Idja Festival. This will give the audience a unique glimpse of what has happened behind the scenes, of memories from the past, and of visions of the future! Ijahis Idja is arranged jointly by Sámi organisations that are based in Inari. The organisers are the association Anára Sámisearvi ry, the Sámi Parliament, the Sámi Education Institute, the municipality of Inari, the Sámi Museum Siida, the Arts Promotion Centre/Regional Office of Lapland, Yle Sápmi and Hotel Kultahovi.
