This year, the European Heritage Day, September 7, has cultural routes as its theme. The Heritage Day in the municipality of Inari begins in Ivalo with a guided bus tour to the village of Inari. As guides, we will have Matti Lehtola, a specialist on the locality, and the students who study tourism at the Sámi Education Institute SAKK.
In the village of Inari, the tour will continue in Lásse’s lávvu, the new hut of the SAKK, where the audience will be introduced to the architectural heritage and cultural routes of the village through photographs and stories. From the lávvu, we will move to the neighbourhood of the old Inari Primary School and then continue the walk to the Parish Hall, where coffee will be served.
During the day, we will learn about the old road to Kittilä and to Utsjoki as well as about the meaning of the River Juutua as a cultural route.
The purpose of the European Heritage Day is to promote knowledge and appreciation of the architectural heritage. Through the theme of cultural routes, people are encouraged and inspired to look around themselves, to study their environment and to listen to the stories of their surroundings.
The European Heritage Day in Inari is arranged by the Sámi Education Institute, the municipality of Inari and the Sámi Museum Siida, and the programme is free for everyone. The bus transportation leaves from Ivalo on Sept. 7 at 4 p.m., and the programme at Lásse’s lávvu begins at 5 p.m. Registrations to Irma Lehtola (tel. 040-7237283) by September 2.
Welcome!
