Museum pedagogy at Siida
The pedagogical program of Siida is based on the pedagogical thinking and narrative tradition of the Sámi. The narrative tradition plays an important role in passing down traditional knowledge from one generation to another. Knowledge and skills have also been passed down by doing. The guiding and teaching products of the Sámi Museum are based on these methods.
The pedagogic services of the Sámi Museum include exhibitions, guided tours, workshops and web and background materials. In its units, the museum arranges lectures, seminars, music and theater performances and other events that focus on culture and other themes and promote its pedagogic purposes. Bigger events are arranged in cooperation with other Sámi cultural agents. Such events include the Indigenous Peoples’ Film Festival Skábmagovat (main organizer The Friends of Sámi Art) and the indigenous music festival Ijahis Idja (main organizer the Sámi Association of Inari, Anára Sámi Searvi).
