Lecture “Beauty and Health from Northern Berries”

Feb 29, 2016 11:22 AM

During her lecture Pilke Cafe360°, docent Riitta Puupponen-Pimiä, who is a prin-cipal scientist at VTT, will introduce the audience to a theme of bioeconomy with a focus on northern berries on Wednesday 2 March 2016 at 18–19:30 in Siida’s au-ditorium.

Many studies have shown that the berries growing in Northern Finland are healthi-er than berries growing elsewhere. Domestic berries also have a great potential to be turned into commercial products, but, unfortunately, processing is still at a low level in Finland. Puupponen-Pimiä will focus on the health effects of berries, new methods of processing, the use of berries in cosmetics, and new types of berry products made possible by technology.

The lecture is free and open for everyone. During the occasion, participants will get coffee and coffeebread at the cafe-restaurant Sarrit.

The Pilke Cafe360° lectures will tour in all the provinces of Finland together with the Forest Arcade. The purpose of the occasion is to look at the theme of bioe-conomy together with an expert of the field.
