Throughout the Year on Wednesdays
Siida  

Spend an afternoon at Siida
Regular route buses take you from Saariselkä and Ivalo to Inari. Timetables are available at the hotel receptions and at the local tourist informations. On Wednesdays there is an organized transportation that will take you back to Saariselkä and to Ivalo.
The return transportation leaves from Siida on Wednesdays at 4.15 p.m. Reservations by 4 p.m. the day before at the hotel receptions (Hotel Kieppi, Hotel Riekonlinna, Tunturihotelli, Holiday Club Saariselkä), at Siida, tel. +358 (0)400 898 212, at Northern Lapland Tourism (Pohjois-Lapin Matkailu), or at Saariselän Keskusvaraamo in Saariselkä. The return fare is charged at Siida along with the entrance fee. Return fares are: to Ivalo 10€ / person and to Saariselkä 14€ / person.

Aurora Borealis Slide Show
A 12-minute slide show with aurora photographs by Martti Rikkonen and music by Vilddas. Included in the entrance fee. Additional shows for groups 10 / show. Nature Night: How to Identify Birds
Can you tell a tree pipit from a meadow pipit? How about a greylag goose from a bean goose? Jouni Aikio, a birdwatcher from Inari, will introduce you to the tricks and secrets of identifying bird species.

Nature Night: The Fish and the Fishermen of the North
Erno Salonen, a researcher from the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute, will tell about fish species and fishing in the lake and river systems of Northern Lapland. The presentation will focus on the species of Lake Inari and their fishing.

Nature Night: Endangered
Tuomo Ollila, a senior inspector of Metsähallitus, will introduce the audience to the endangered species of the areas of Inari and Utsjoki, telling about their situations and the protective measures. The presentation will concentrate on big predators and birds of prey.

Nature Night: Shelf Fungus Night
Learn to identify shelf fungus species! Maire Puikko, an inspector of gathered products, will introduce the audience to the most common, as well as many rarer, shelf fungi living in our woods. With the help of dried specimens and photographs, we will examine the distinguishing characteristics and habitats of a variety of species.

Mia Vuomajoki, a conservation biologist of Metsähallitus, will guide us into the fascinating world of the plants growing in the fell area. During the evening, we will learn about the most common highland plants but also how to identify rarer plants.

A guide will show us around the main exhibition of Siida, focusing on the scientific aspects of the exhibition. We will learn about the survival strategies of a variety of species but also about the approach and background of the exhibition.

European Heritage Day
Matti Lehtola, an expert on the local environment, introduces the participants to the building tradition of the village of Inari during an evening walk. The day is connected with the 2010 Campaign on Cultural Landscapes (JOY - Jokaisen Oma Ympäristö; “Everyone’s Own Environment”). Tickets € 5/person.

Playing Traditional Sámi Games Outdoors
By the Siida and in the open-air museum, we will play with stick reindeer and compete in throwing the Sámi lasso. The outdoor games day is arranged in cooperation with the Sámi Children’s Cultural Centre.

Guided Tours in the Open-Air Museum
Guided tours are arranged in the open-air part of the Sámi Museum in June and July every Thursday at noon. The guided tour of this area which is rich in tradition lasts for one hour and fifteen minutes. It is included in the ticket to Siida. In July, working demonstrations are also arranged in the open-air museum.
